La Laguna di Venezia is Nicolò Degiorgis’ tribute to the Venetian lagoon and its horizons. Bound as an origami booklet, a collection of twenty-two postcards portrays the farthest removed areas of Venice, home to uninhabited islands, small watercrafts, piers, harbours and fishing infrastructures. Spread over 118 small islands and founded in the fifth century, present-day Venice is endangered by past industrial developments and an ever-increasing tourism. Degiorgis pays homage to the city as an equally fierce and fragile ecosystem with images that show its true colours, away from the crowds. The aim is to draw attention to Venice’s controversies without directly showing either the causes or the consequences of the city’s corrosion.
