Love—the popular fashion bible founded in 2009 by industry titan Katie Grand with financial backing from Condé Nast—returns after a five year hiatus; this time under new creative direction. Heading the masthead, its Juan Costa Paz and Nordine Benotmane, visionary co-founders of Paris-based creative agency Convoy, who acquired the legacy title following a successful stint of creative direction at Vogue.
Rather than attempting to recreate Love’s former fashion-forward approach, the pair introduce the relaunch with an outline of their ambitious strategy: ‘take this iconic title, push through the ‘it’s not what it used to be’ phase, build our own creative multiverse, and propose a new model for fashion magazines’. Unlike its former iteration, the new issue leads with politics and culture, flexing its cultural capital.
Themed Freedom, a poignant and hopeful choice in an era clouded by genocide and rising authoritarianism, the issue spotlights a handful of courageous and free-spirited creatives who represent the future as much as they embody the present moment. On the cover, you’ll find Benny Safdie, Solange, Young Thug and Loli Bahia, featuring conversations with all but the latter inside. Accompanying the glossy fashion editorial and interview segment, you’ll also find a matte insert covering the design and evolution of protest symbols; freedom themed reading and watch lists curated by Ebony L. Haynes and Djiby Kebe respectively; Emmanuel ‘Jagari’ Chanada on Zambia’s reverberating musical legacy; Avi Schiffmann, the tech developer using his skillset to create welfare solutions; plus, much more.
