A magazine devoted to contemporary Asian culture. In their own words: ‘The choice for the name Banana is meant to be an inside joke. For anyone who has ever been called a ‘banana,’ you know that it’s a nickname that has been given to many first generation Asians growing up in a western world, like us. It’s not meant to be derogatory, but celebratory.
Back after a much-deserved hiatus since 2020, Banana has announced it will no longer publish annually. Although uncertain of what new kind of publishing cadence they’ll take, the editors insist that they’re ‘still here’ and eager to bring a sense of belonging and joy no matter what format they do next.
For now, enjoy this satisfyingly shimmery edition, with cover art by Justin Yoon.
